The Block Gives Back understands that the issue of violence here in Philadelphia is a much deeper-rooted issue than just having a day of violence prevention can fix, but we aim to make our parks a safe haven. This event normally recruits 15-20 neighborhood organizations and small businesses to promote to attendees. TBGB also has scheduled activities throughout the day including but not limited to Tug-a-War, a watermelon eating contest, volleyball, and musical chairs. Lastly, but most importantly, TBGB recruits local entertainers and community leaders to promote messages of non-violence, alternative behavior to violent actions, and the importance of community.
