A fun fact about Amelia "Cookie" Elizabeth Lewis is that her nickname "Cookie" came from her childhood habit of sneaking cookies that her mother had baked for the holidays. Her mother stored the cookies in big tin cans under the bed, and Amelia would grab handfuls of these cookies to tuck into her pockets before heading to school, earning her the sweet and endearing nickname from her mother.

Amelia "Cookie" Elizabeth Lewis, born on December 9, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, led a life filled with faith, love, and dedication to her community until her passing on January 22, 2024. Her legacy is a testament to the strength and encouragement she provided, even in her final days in the ICU of Jefferson Hospital (Frankford), where she communicated love and hope to her family and friends.

Cookie's early life was marked by a deep connection to her family and faith. Named by her brother after a nurse who delivered her, she grew up surrounded by love and support. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church, where her spiritual journey began and continued to flourish through her participation in church activities and choirs.

Her nickname, "Cookie," given by her mother due to her fondness for cookies, reflected the warmth and sweetness she brought into the lives of those around her. Cookie's talents extended to sewing, a skill she pursued with passion and used to express her care and creativity.

Married to Donald Lewis Sr. in 1966, Cookie's family life was filled with love, raising four children and imbuing them with the values of faith and community service. Her professional and voluntary activities, including her meaningful contribution at Brand's Currency System and her nurturing role at Allegheny Childcare Center, showcased her commitment to making a difference.

In 2008, Cookie founded The Gill Ministry, through which she extended her influence by supporting academic achievements, uplifting the spirits of the homebound, and sharing messages of faith and encouragement. This initiative reflected her life’s mission to spread kindness and support within her community.

Cookie's enduring legacy, carried on by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives she touched, is a testament to the impact of her unwavering love, faith, and service.
